4. Represent St. Andrews Gymnastics & the Sport with Professionalism
Coaches agree to:
- Speak positively about the club, it's athletes, and the sport of gymnastics.
- Bring concerns or disagreements privatley to the head coach or program director, rather than discussing them publicly.
- Take responsibility, avoid blaming others, and focus on finding solutions.
- Act in a manner that reflects the club's values, both inside and outside the gym.
5. Maintain a Professional Appearance & Teaching Method
Coaches must:
- Use teaching methods consistent with safe sport principles, NCCP education, and club standards.
- Treat all gymnasts respectfully, regardless of age, ability, or level.
- Wear the approved coaching uniform at all practices and competitions.
- Keep hair neatly secured and avoid jewelry that may interfere with spotting or athlete safety.
Professional appearance reinforces safety and authority in the gym.
6. Use Positive Reinforcement as the Primary Coaching Method
Coaches are expected to:
- Build athletes up through positive reinforcement, encouragement, and skill-appropriate challenges.
- Never intimidate, embarrass, verbally abuse, or degrade a gymnast.
- Help athletes develop confidence, resilience, and a love for learning.
Coaching should empower gymnasts, not intimidate them.
